Search Engine Optimisation (Optimization)
If you ask ten different internet marketing companies that what Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is and the chances are that you will receive ten different answers. For the purposes of this website, SEO will be defined as the process of carrying out transitional elements to a website in order for it to be more accessible to search engines and the people that arrive at your site from the search engines.
Search engine optimisation or promotion, is not necessary about out witting the search engines. It is more to do with the understanding of the elements involved by search engines that look for on a page to help determine the relevance of the page to a specific search term. By taking the time to understand what page elements the search engines look into for consideration, one has to make constant adjustments to better present the page, so that it allows you to improve your rank for a give search term.
Search engines use specialist programs referred to as "spiders" or "crawlers" that visit specific pages of your Web site in an automated process. In addition they index the information on those pages. This includes the content that your visitors see when viewing your page and some of code used to build your page.
Taking search engine optimisation into consideration before you build your is of paramount significance. However, search engine optimisation can also be carried out after the site is built, but it will require making adjustments to your website.
It significant that one has to understand that it will likely take several months before the site will start seeing any traffic. The simple reason for this being that it takes some time for the search engines to update their databases.
Domain Names
It used to be the case that search engines used to give a high priority to domain names, to such an extent that rankings were determined to a large extent by the keyword in the domain name. However now having specific keywords in your domain is not a valuable consideration when considering search engine marketing or promotion. For example, having a domain such as www.keyword-keyword.com isn't going to do much. However recent research by Cybernet Media LTD consultants have found that search engines to give some value to the keyword within the domain name. Therefore we attempt to place the keyword after the domain name e.g. www.yourdomain.co.uk/keyword
In addition to the latter point, if the keyword is in your domain it naturally make sense and would make it easier to remember to your visitors, then one should not be afraid to implement keywords in your domain name. If you already have a domain name, then we will place your keyword after your domain as specified in the example above. There is no need to switch just because your domain it not packed with keywords.
Remember: Don't purchase multiple domains with the idea of having multiple copies of your Web site to get multiple listings in the search engines. This will likely result in a penalty from the search engines.
Paid Inclusion
Paid inclusion is the process of paying the search engines in order for it to index pages from your website. It is also often referred to as PFI (Pay for Inclusion) or PPI (Pay Per Inclusion).
This option is becoming increasingly popular with both website owners and search engines. Website owners that want to get their site indexed quickly like it because they don't have to wait for the search engines to find their websites naturally through inbound links and listings in search directories. Search engines such as Yahoo, like it because it is a way to increase revenue by charging the website owners for this service. If you have the budget and you don't want to wait, this is a good option.
Most of the major search engines provide a paid inclusion service such as yahoo and Inktomi, with one big exception - Google. With Google, you cannot pay to have your site indexed and you will have to wait for their search crawler to index your website. Fortunately, Google does a good job finding new sites once the sites have established inbound links.
