What is pay per click?

There has been a substantial growth in recent years in the usage of Pay Per click systems in the UK to generate traffic to web sites. Pay Per click marketing is considered by many to be a great way to attain visitors to your site. So when you need traffic and you need it instantaneously, then it is a great route to take. However what must be understood is that it can be a risky investment. One can spend hundreds of pounds on increasing visitors to your website but end with little or return on your investments. However if you do want to go down this route, it is essential that you take on an organisation that has the experience and the necessary skills in PPC Account Management and the necessary expertise in delivery traffic so that it enables you to attain a good return on your investment. Here at Cybernet Media LTD we carry out proven strategies and provide examples of what to do and what not to do.

How does it work?

If one is to take this form of internet marketing at face value, PPC would come across as pretty simple to carry out. The two main providers of PPC such as Google or Overture provide listings based on bid amount. This is carried out in addition to their natural listings which are powered by other formulae such as Link Popularity and Search Engine Optimisation.

If one places a high bid for a specific keyword, then ranking is dependant on the amount of the bid put forward. On Google, the Pay Per Click listings show up in the Adwords column on the right-hand side of the screen. Other engines, such as MSN Search or Yahoo which get their listings from Overture, display Pay Per Click listings as 'sponsored listings' in the same column as the natural search results. Therefore if someone clicks on these sponsored listings then you will get charged the amount of the bid. For example if you bid £1 for the term loans, when the user clicks on this term you will get charged the amount of

the bid. For example if you bid £1 for the term loans, when the user clicks on this term you will get charged that amount for that visitor clicking on your site. If 100 people click on that site then you will get charged a £100 pounds by the PPC provider.

Disadvantages of Pay Per Click:

There are many disadvantages associated with Pay Per Click advertising. Firstly, PPC can cost a fortune. The reason being that once there has been a bid placed to be in the top position for specific keyword, the chances are that your competitors can outbid you which will result in them being placed above you. This can lead to a "bidding war" and this has often resulted in people spending more than their potential return. Research by Cybernet Media LTD has found that some PPC engines, especially Overture, offer features such as "auto bid" but these are never wholly accurate and as such it is essential that human intervention to monitor the bids plays a key role. However lack of experience can lead to adverse circumstance. Here at Cybernet Media, expert account management is carried out to ensure that this is not the case.

Secondly return on investment (ROI) can be difficult to measure. Some PPC engines (Google Ad words and Overture) do provide tools such as conversion measurements track sales from clicks, but these tracking tools are not 100% accurate. In addition the smaller Pay Per click providers do not provide such tools.

Thirdly, there is the consideration of junk traffic. These are usually browsers who are looking for information. But never the less the PPC search engines still will charge you for these visitors.

Finally, pay-per-click advertising does not scale. If you get more traffic, you pay more money in direct proportion to that traffic - your cost per click stays constant, and your overall cost increases. Compare that to natural search engine optimization, where you invest a fixed amount of time and/or money to achieve a better rank, and your cost per click goes down as you draw more traffic.

Advantages of the Pay Per Click:

There are a number of important advantages associated with Pay Per Click Marketing. Firstly traffic can be generated right away. If one is willing to spend enough it allows placement in top positions and this will enable customers to see you first. If people are searching for a chosen keyword where you are the highest bidder, a well constructed add will get visitors as soon as the add is activated.

So in consideration of the latter Pay Per Click advertising is fast: With some systems, such as Ad words, you can generate targeted search engine traffic within a few minutes of opening an account.

So in consideration of the latter, PPC can be a good useful marketing method. However what must be understood is that one has to be experienced in the system and all the necessary research that needs to be carried out is carried out. Here at Cybernet Media LTD we have some of the most experienced people dealing with account management who are specialists in the PPC systems. This ensures that every visitor and traffic generated has the best chance in converting to business. All your bids are managed as well as ensuring that you don't over-spend. Also our account managers will allow tom free your time up and focus on other areas of business.
